Kylie Minogue, Sarah Lancashire, Catherine Tate and Felicity Kendal join a long list of stars who are lining up to appear in Doctor Who. For David Tennant, it will be a very happy Christmas and new year indeed.
Pop princess Kylie Minogue will be joining the Doctor in a leading role in the hour-long Christmas special, Voyage Of The Damned.
Kylie says, “It is an incredible thrill to be joining David and the entire Doctor Who production for this year’s Christmas special.
“Doctor Who enjoys a unique history and it is going to be very exciting to be a part of that.”
The storyline will follow on directly from the end of series three, where viewers witnessed the Titanic crash through the Tardis walls, but Kylie’s role in the episode is being kept under wraps.
Doctor Who’s executive producer and head writer, Russell T Davies, says, “Doctor Who Christmas specials are always a joy and we feel very confident that this will be the most ambitious and best Christmas episode yet.”
The fourth series of Doctor Who since its revival by Davies will hit the screens in spring 2008 and promises an equally glittering cast.
Sarah Lancashire, best known for roles in Coronation Street, Clocking Off and Rose & Maloney, will guest starring as Miss Foster, an enigmatic and powerful businesswoman, in episode one.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be in Doctor Who,” says Sarah. “It’s a brilliant episode and I’m looking forward to taking the Time Lord on.”
Award-winning actress Catherine Tate is reprising her role as Donna Noble, the runaway bride who featured in last year’s Christmas special. The start of the new series will see Donna tracking down the Doctor during an alien emergency in modern-day London.
The Doctor and Donna are destined to experience a wealth of wonderful adventures throughout the new series, including meeting one of Doctor Who’s most popular aliens, The Ood, in a brand new episode, Planet Of The Ood. The couple will also be travelling through time for an encounter with legendary murder mystery novelist Agatha Christie and taking a trip to Pompeii.
Other guest stars in the new series include Felicity Kendal, Fenella Woolgar, Tim McInnerny, Peter Capaldi, Phil Davis and Tracey Childs. Freema Agyeman, who played the Doctor’s companion, Martha Jones, throughout the third series, will return to the show in mid-series.
