| Old Toys are Still the Favourites! |
 |
With
Christmas fast-approaching, Santas little helpers
across the land will be buying toys for good girls and boys.
When you are forced to do Santas legwork, earning
him brownie points on Christmas morning, stick to the old
favourites and you cant go wrong.
A
survey by the first free online wish list for children in
the UK, gogoblin.co.uk, shows the classic toys are still
kids favourites. Lego tops the chart of their best
toys ever survey, while Barbie remains the most loved
girls toy.
In conjunction with eparenting.co.uk, the survey asked parents
to name their childrens favourite toys and a massive
41 per cent of respondents said that Lego was in the top
five. The responses mentioned nearly 3,000 different toys,
but Lego beat them all hands down when it came to being
the best loved and most played with.
Lego even beat modern giants like Nintendo and Playstation.
Also in the top five was Monopoly, mentioned by 16 per cent
of respondents, which was three times as popular as Scrabble,
the next ranking board game. Barbie was named by 15 per
cent of respondents and had a 48 per cent share of all named
dolls. Bikes were popular with 10 per cent and football
by nine per cent. Other popular toys ranged from board games
through creative and artistic toys, construction toys, electronic,
imaginative and role-play toys, to outdoor toys.
Jane Manson, CEO at Gogoblin.co.uk, comments, As we
approach the run up to Christmas, this survey shows that
the old classic toys are frequently the most successful,
according to parents, in terms of being loved and played
with a lot by children.
They seem to have the longest life-span with children,
who grow up with these toys and find different more sophisticated
ways of playing with them as they get older. Modern toys
have great appeal to kids, of course, but you wouldnt
go far wrong if you put Lego down on your gogoblin wish
list this Christmas for your toddler.
The toys were also put into categories and it was found
that, overall, the category of imaginative play came out
on top. These toys include dolls and character toys, trains,
cars and dressing up. The board and card games category
came second, closely followed by construction toys.
